Jake; you taught us the true meaning of family..

Picture
This page is dedicated to my best boy Jake. I lost him a couple of years ago and only now feel that I can really write about it. Jake had a great life, lots of traveling, with mom & dad, living in Colorado & Alaska.  He stayed with us for almost 16 years. Cushing's Disease got the better of him the fall of 2010. He was loved by all who met him, played with him, baby sat him while we traveled on larger trips that he couldn't go on.  I think about him almost every day, miss him dearly. I know though that he no longer suffers and is probably running on some beach, catching a frisbee (his ultimate love), with my father & his dog Zappa.

I will tell you one story; a time about Jake that stands out among the many.  We were in Whittier Alaska, there is an inlet there of a freshwater stream dumping into the ocean.  The beach there is primarily rock and sand. Somehow in our traveling, we did not put any toys in the truck, and being Jake, he so wanted to play, with something, anything he could find. He ran up and down the beach looking and looking, finally spotted a stick poking out of the water of the fast flowing stream, about 40 ft wide, and of course it was right in the middle.  Jake was courageous, especially if it meant he could play. With no prodding, he jumped right in...swimming against the current to get that stick. Latching onto the end, it didn't budge, you could see him twisting and turning, tugging and pulling, getting what little footing he could in that chilly, glacial stream. Finally the stick moved...back pedaling, he pulled it to shore. What looked like a 2 ft long stick was in actuality, the tip of a 15 ft long pine tree. Of course after hauling out such a prize, I busted off the end and we played fetch 'til nearly dark.  We miss you buddy. Love, Mom & Dad
